Private Family Residence Mercer Island, Washington Desire This family consists of a married professional couple with two young children. Their goal was to update the home and dramatically improve the circulation throughout the residence. Challenge To solve real floor plan issues while maintaining the goal of creating open living spaces with rooms that are appropriately scaled and feel intimate and inviting. Equally as important was the adherence to the client's budget. As a result, many of the interior design space planning decisions were made in direct relation to budget and construction costs. Outcome All interior spaces within the entire home were redesigned. The result was the creation of family spaces that freshly hint at the old but completely embrace the new. This was accomplished by designing with clean modern lines and connecting the aesthetic to a more classical past. The solution and style direction honors the year this home was built, 1942. The interior furnishings are simple but strong with Susan Marinello's classic understated elegant design.
