Private Family Residence Seattle, Washington Desire This married couple with three children were looking for a home that reflected themselves and their lifestyle. They wanted an open kitchen in which they had the option to cook for small or large groups of family and friends. They hoped to make the most of their Lake Washington east facing view, the result was to create as many wonderful view rooms as possible, including an outdoor eating area with a covered barbeque which is situated directly off the kitchen. Challenge The Laurelhurst neighborhood home has an amazing view overlooking the water, but its architecture was nondescript. The existing floor plan was comprised of small rooms and constrained spaces that produced challenging circulation. The clients also sought to furnish their home in a way that was sophisticated for entertaining their friends, but also comfortable enough for their kids to play around. Outcome The entire home was gutted and redesigned, with all interior spaces restructured. The contained spaces were configured so that all rooms now open into the next. The interior furnishings are a mixture of the family’s antiques and new furnishings which complement and enhance the antique collection.
